You probably have several questions spinning in your head — we’re here to answer all of them. Browse our frequently asked questions surrounding vehicle safety recalls below.
What is a recall?
Recalls can be very inconvenient; however, they are necessary to keep drivers safe. If a vehicle has been deemed unsafe according to the manufacturer or the NHTSA, a safety recall notice will be issued to owners of that model, informing them of the safety hazard. Luckily for drivers, the manufacturer is required to fix these issues at no additional cost to the owner of the vehicle. Don’t hesitate to schedule a service appointment with our expert technicians and they’ll make the necessary repairs to ensure your absolute safety.

What is NHTSA?
The NHTSA, also known as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, strives to uphold safety standards in order to keep passengers and drivers safe. For easy access, NHTSA provides vehicle safety ratings so you can make an informed decision on your next car purchase. Their main mission is to “save lives, prevent injuries and reduce economic costs due to road traffic crashes, through education, research, safety standards and enforcement activity.”
How do I know if the pre-owned vehicle that I’m interested in has a safety recall?
Browsing the NHTSA vehicle safety ratings is easier than ever — simply enter the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of your car into their search tool. If you don’t have that number at the ready, you can also search by inputting your vehicle’s year, make and model. You can even visit the Lexus manufacturer website and search for your vehicle to stay up-to-date on any potential recalls. Additionally, Lexus of Mobile would be happy to provide your model’s CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™, which will contain recalls if it received any.
How will I find out if my vehicle is subject to a safety recall after I purchase it?
You won’t miss a safety recall as you’ll be informed via phone, email or first-class mail. This notice will explain the details of the recall and what your next steps should be. However, to receive recall notifications, your address and vehicle registration information must be up-to-date.
